Summary

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), in collaboration with Texas Government and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFWIA), is undertaking the TEXRail Commuter Line project from southwest Fort Worth to DFWIA in Texas, the US.

The project involves the construction of a double-track, 44km rail line. It will include the construction of 10 new stations, expansion of existing operations and maintenance facility, 3,300 car park and bike parking facilities and construction of other related infrastructural facilities.

The proposed infrastructure project is planned to be executed on design-build basis under public private partnership (PPP).

In November 2006, The T selected commuter rails as the preferred alternative from the study conducted by DMJM Aviation Inc. 

In March 2011, The T selected CH2M HILL as the Program Management Consultant Contractor on the Project. The scope of the contract includes providing resources necessary to implement TEX Rail including design and construction oversight, procurement and contracting assistance, project cost and schedule control, quality assurance, and other ancillary program services. 

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) appointed Anil Verma Associates Inc as the Project Management Oversight Consultant (PMOC) on the Project. 

The government also appointed URS Corporation for preliminary engineering and design. The contract scope covers transit planning, safety, public involvement and other design and statistical elements in-related to the project.

In March 2012, Federal Transit Administration approved the preliminary plans, thus moving the project into preliminary engineering phase. 

In June 2012, The T received approval to develop Medical District Station at 12th Avenue and Rosedale.

In February 2013, the project has been placed on hold. 

In February 2014, the project was facing delay and The T was in negotiations and was in the process of reviewing options to develop on the project.

On March 6, 2014, the project secured US$50 million funds from Federal Government. 

On May 19, 2014, Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the project submitted for public review and comment.

On July 22, 2014, The T signed agreements to test run the TEX Rail line on tracks owned by Dallas Area Rapid Transit which run from near the Stockyards through Northeast Tarrant County.

On April 27, 2015, The T board approved several contracts related to the proposed TEX Rail commuter line.

The authorized agreements include a contract with Archer Western/Herzog Joint Venture for pre-construction services to work closely with the projects design team to lay the groundwork for future construction.

In June 2015, the board approved a US$106.7 million agreement with Stadler Bussnang AG for the purchase of eight diesel multiple unit rail vehicles. 

Herzog Contracting Corp. has been appointed as the contractor for the main project. 

Architexas has been appointed as design consultant and Manhattan Construction as the construction contractor for the Grapevine Main station.

In August 2016, ground breaking ceremony held, marking the commencement of construction activities on the project.

On March 7, 2018, groundbreaking ceremony held on Grapevine Main station, marking start of construction activities.

Construction works on the rail line is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the station is expected to complete by the end of 2019.
